Sue Miller is the director of the SABES PD Center for Educational Leadership and Strengthening ABE Programs. In this role she helps create the strategic vision for this PD Center and designs, facilitates, and evaluates professional development activities to support adult education (AE) directors and their leadership teams, including the MA ABE Leadership Academy and Peer Coaching for New Teachers Project. She locates national experts and develops skilled directors and teachers to become SABES PD facilitators. She also oversees the Center’s PD team in its efforts to orient new teachers and strengthen teaching.
Sue has been in the AE field for over 30 years, providing high quality professional development with SABES for 25 of those years. Included during this time was her role as director of the former Central MA Regional SABES office. In this capacity she provided direction and support to regional AE directors and program and staff development facilitators and their teams to help programs better serve their students. Before joining SABES, Sue was the program director of Worcester Jewish Federation’s Refugee Resettlement Program for four years. She coordinated and oversaw a comprehensive multi-faceted support system for new Americans, which included ESOL classes, world of work orientation classes, job placement services, post-employment ESOL classes, volunteer-facilitated ESOL conversation classes, case management services, and volunteer career mentors.
Sue’s passion for education and organizational learning was sparked during her last year of pursuing a master’s degree in vocational counseling. She realized her interest was truly in adult learning and followed her passion by completing a master’s degree in Organizational and Adult Learning from The George Washington University. Sue models lifelong learning daily, as she is always reading the latest literature and journal articles to stay current on research and evidence-based practices to share with PD participants. In addition, she attends and participates in national conferences and webinars to continue to grow professionally and to best assist programs in helping learners reach their goals as efficiently and effectively as possible.
