Overview

An introduction to the mathematical practices in the CCR Standards for Math featuring two webinars and independent assignments.

Description

NOTE: This series runs over a 4-week period and is composed of two internet-based assignments (to be completed independently in Weeks 1 & 3) and two live webinars; participants must commit to all four parts.

Part 1: July 16 – 22 (independent assignment work; no webinar this week)
Part 2: July 23 (live webinar 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.)
Part 3: July 30 – August 5 (independent assignment work; no webinar this week)
Part 4: August 6 (live webinar 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.)

The entire series (independent work and webinars together) will take about 6-7 hours total to complete.

This series will introduce the eight mathematical practices described in the CCR Standards for Math. Participants will consider ways to engage students in each of the mathematical practices. The challenge of working through problems in the assignments will encourage participants to consider the perspectives of both learner and teacher, forming the basis for rich group discussion of strategy and practices. Discussion will take place during the webinars using the live chat box and polls.
