  • ELA and subject-matter (e.g., social studies, science, literature, career development) teachers of students who read at GLE 9–12
Description

EBRI is a set of practices for teaching the four essential components of reading (alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) that research has proven to increase the reading achievement of adult learners.

This professional development offering focuses on reading comprehension for advanced readers. Build skills and learn strategies related to understanding, analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing the knowledge-building texts emphasized by the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE) for ELA.

The course includes three parts:

  • Part 1 (face-to-face session, 5.5 PD hours): Learn new evidence-based approaches for teaching reading comprehension.
  • Part 2 (implementation practicum, 3 PD hours): Choose and implement one approach.
  • Part 3 (webinar, 1.5 PD hours): Reflect on your experiences and deepen your understanding of EBRI.

While not eligible for PDPs by itself, this offering can be bundled with other EBRI offerings in order to earn PDPs.
