The SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy Curriculum & Instruction PD Center is creating a context-driven math unit about “being your own boss.” The unit will feature student voices, using real students’ self-employment and entrepreneurial experiences to direct learning.
We are looking for current or recently exited students who are working for themselves in a variety of ways. Examples could include students who:
- Earn money providing on-demand services such as driving for Uber or delivering food for GrubHub
- Regularly perform odd jobs
- Sell things online
- Are self-employed (for example providing house-cleaning or handyman services)
- Own their own business
- Other freelance/contract work
We will select three students to be interviewed. We will use their stories in the unit in the form of video clips. Because the interviews will be videorecorded (on Zoom or in person), students should know that they will not be anonymous and must be comfortable giving consent for us to use the recordings. Participating students will receive a $25 stipend in the form of a check or an e-gift card.
If you have students who might be a good fit for this project, please invite them to fill out our Google form survey at the link below.
If you have additional questions, please reach out to our Center at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
