Water is an integral part of our lives. While the issues that surround it are often complex, this topic can and should be tackled by emerging readers. It is a topic that adults at all levels of reading and background knowledge will be able to relate to, making connections to their environment, to society, and to themselves.

"The Science and Culture of Water" is a CCRSAE-aligned unit plan targeted for GLE 2–3.9 and adaptable to higher reading levels. It is accompanied by a unit commentary and three sample lesson plans with handouts and resource links.

"The Science and Culture of Water" unit was created between 2015-2019, under the auspices of ACLS and the SABES ELA C&I PD Center. You may use and adapt these materials to fit the students and circumstances in your program.
