The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) requires all teaching staff in an ESE-funded ABE program to complete the Foundations for New Staff: The Art of Teaching within the first 12 months of employment. Teaching staff do not need to take this course if they were previously employed at an ESE-funded ABE program and already possess a certificate of completion from the foundations course or from its predecessor, New Staff Orientation.
