This training was developed by Andy Nash, director of the New England Literacy Resource Center, prepares instructors to create and use formative assessment as part of daily standards-based instruction. The training is conducted in two parts and you need to register for each part separately.

In Part 1, facilitated by Andy Nash, you will learn the basics of formative assessment and consider various formative assessment approaches. Part 1 is a prerequisite to attending Part 2.

Part 2 is content-based, focusing on reading, math, or ESOL, and will be facilitated by content experts in each field. In this session, you will learn to use a guiding process to create new assessments for your own lessons, based on the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE). Register for Part 2

  • Define formative assessment and explain its role in adult learning
    Create standards-aligned formative assessment tools and processes as part of daily instruction
    Use the development and results of formative assessments to help students understand their own progress and performance

Prerequisites

For Part 1: Read a short research brief on formative assessment in adult education which will be sent to you prior to the training. Part 1 is a prerequisite to attending Part 2.
