Kate has been in the adult education field since 2007, serving as a Community Planner, Learn at Work Program Coordinator, Career Pathways instructor (ESOL), Technology Coordinator, and Assistant Program Manager at the Quinsigamond Community College (QCC) Community Adult Learning Center; she is currently a member of the SABES team. She also participated in the ACLS Advising Task Force (Part 2), SABES Advisory Group, and ACLS Technology Working Group. Kate has presented statewide on advising best practices and Career Pathways/HCLN ; in her role as Coordinator of Instructional Technology with SABES, she developed and facilitated PD on “The Art of Hiring and Parting Ways” and “The Tech-Savvy Administrator.”

Kate holds a master’s degree in Education–Instructional Design from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, with a focus on adult and non-traditional learners. While pursuing her graduate studies, Kate experienced the many benefits of online learning. As a mother of three, full-time administrator, part-time instructor, and resident of a rural community, traveling several nights a week for classes to achieve her goal of furthering her education would have been very difficult, but UMass Boston’s instructional design program—specializing in creating opportunities for online learners from all over the world—made her dream a reality. This understanding of the importance of the accessibility of excellent educational and PD opportunities is one of many reasons that Kate is so passionate about making HQPD available to all adult education practitioners across Massachusetts. Kate continually takes advantage of a wide variety of PD offerings in order to enhance and continually improve the SABES PD system’s online courses.
