What do students really want to learn about? One teacher discovered that "My students like this topic above all other history topics." Read her thoughtful commentary about teaching about the American Civil Rights Movement on the Reflect & Connect blog, and explore the CCRSAE-aligned unit, with three sample lessons and handouts, created for ABE students at GLE 6–8.9. You may use and adapt these materials to fit the students and circumstances in your program.

This unit was created between 2015-2019, under the auspices of ACLS and the SABES ELA C&I PD Center. The unit commentary was written in June 2020, and is also posted at the ELA blog, Reflect & Connect.
