Employer, workforce, and occupational training partners are key to implementing successful IET/ IELCE programs; however, getting them onboard can require considerable planning and relationship building. This day-long workshop will enable practitioners to explore a process for planning and implementing IETs; explore strategies for building partnerships; and develop an action plan for implementing an IET/IELCE. The focus of this session responds to the PD needs identified from a recent survey of current IET/IELCE program directors.
Practitioners who attend this session are eligible to attend Developing Lessons and Activities for the Basic Skills and English Literacy Component of an IET/IELCE Program on June 5th.
- Program directors and instructors who want to be more strategic and systematic in planning and implementing existing or new IET/IELCEs
- Program directors and instructors who are new to or in the early stages of implementing an IET/IELCE
- IET/IELC program teams, including external partners, such as MassHire Career Centers, MassHire Workforce Boards, and occupational skills training providers, as well as AE directors, instructors, and advisors
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
IET/IELCE programs are important career pathways strategies for simultaneously building occupational, basic or English language, and workforce preparation skills allowed under WIOA. IET/IELCEs enable adult educators to help students access concurrent and contextual occupational training and academic instruction so that they can achieve their educational and career goals. IET/IELCEs also result in certifications leading to employment in high-demand industries. To design an effective IET/IELCE program, you need to build strong relationships with employer and workforce partners as well as understand the educational needs and career interests of your target population. Collaboration with workforce and industry experts and training providers is also essential to ensure that you incorporate real-world, relevant, and up-to-date knowledge and skills into the IET/IELCE curriculum development.
This session provides the guidance and tools needed to develop partnerships, design a comprehensive IET/IELCE program, and identify and support students who are a good match for IET/IELCE. You will explore a resource guide to help you design and implement an IET/IELCE: Developing Basic Skills Curriculum for an IET: A Guide for the Pathways to Employment Program. With guidance from the presenter and feedback from peers, you will begin to develop an IET or IET/IELCE action plan.
