In this two-part workshop through Zoom, you will learn ways to adapt and transfer your best practices for teaching beginning English learners to a remote learning context.

This professional development activity/course is designed for:
During two 90 minute sessions hosted on Zoom, this workshop focuses on best practices in teaching beginning English learners (community building, learning routines, meaningful content and context, scaffolding, differentiation, formative and summative assessment, and release of responsibility). It explores how we can bring those practices into both the synchronous and asynchronous remote instruction by using a variety of media and platforms (Zoom, WhatsApp, and the U.S. Postal Service). The workshop will address the challenges remote teaching presents to teachers of beginning level ESOL students, while also highlighting some of its opportunities. This workshop suggests an open and curious “beginner's mindset” as we expand our teaching toolbox beyond the traditional classroom.
In-between the two Zoom sessions participants will have an opportunity to engage in a short reflective reading of the new Massachusetts ESOL Professional Standard on Instructional Delivery.
