During this two-part workshop on Zoom, teachers of intermediate ESOL students will learn ways to transfer and adapt their best practices to a remote learning context.

This professional development activity/course is designed for:
This workshop focuses on best practices in teaching intermediate English learners (community building, learning routines, meaningful content and context, scaffolding, differentiation, formative and summative assessment, and release of responsibility) through a combination of two 90-minute Zoom workshops and a reflective reading of the new Massachusetts ESOL Professional Standard on Instructional Delivery.
The Zoom sessions will introduce a short rationale for each instructional practice and several applied examples for both synchronous and asynchronous remote instruction using a variety of media and platforms (e.g., Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Suite, and the U.S. Postal Service). Between the two Zoom sessions, participants will read excerpts from Professional Standard 6 and consider how they implement those practices in their own unique remote instruction.

- Identify some of the opportunities of remote teaching
- Choose appropriate digital tools based on ESOL student accessibility and skill level
