In this experiential learning workshop, ESOL instructors will explore techniques to contextualize grammar instruction in meaningful content and maximize students’ practice and use of new language. The presenters will model a gradual release of responsibility of learning and include a variety of ways teachers can present targeted grammar points aligned to the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards; promote student metalinguistic awareness through reflection and analysis; and create activities for ample student practice and authentic language use. Through two facilitated virtual sessions and two self-directed online modules, this PD opportunity includes a combination of presentation and demonstration; experiential exploration and hands-on practice; videos; readings; and application to the ESOL classroom. The course opens at 8am on May 25th for you to view materials before the first virtual session.
