This professional development activity/course is designed for:
Trauma impacts our ability to learn. Many adult learners have had traumatic experiences, such as escaping a war-torn country, surviving abuse, and dealing with the effects of poverty and systemic racism. Past trauma has been exacerbated by the current and ongoing trauma of this pandemic, with the loss of loved ones, jobs, health, and overall disruption of everyday life.
Nancy Simons has been providing trauma treatment, training, and consultation for over 30 years, most recently coordinating trauma treatment and wellness for refugees in Western Mass. Jean-Paul Gatete, MSW, has worked with refugee populations in Rwanda, providing reconciliation and peace-building work, and has experienced education in the U.S. as an immigrant student. Together they will share how to identify signs of psychological trauma and create safe spaces for learning, whether online or in person.
Please note: This session cannot be accessed from the SABES website. You will receive a separate email from Joanne Harrington at Quinsigamond Community College with instructions on how to access the webinar.
