The Northstar Digital Literacy Standards for Essential Computer Skills promote digital equity and access by helping adults gain the digital literacy skills and confidence they need to seek, obtain, and retain employment; succeed in higher education; and perform tasks in daily life.
The Northstar Standards define these essential skills in three main areas:
- Essential Computer Skills: Computer Basics, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows, and MAC Operating System
- Essential Software Skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Docs
- Using Technology in Daily Life: Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, and Your Digital Footprint, and Accessing Telehealth Appointments
In this workshop, Theresa Sladek from Northstar will describe how teachers, advisors, and others use the standards to incorporate digital literacy into their instruction and assessment to help students build mastery in the areas that matter to them.

You will have time to explore them and consider how you might use them to inform and organize your digital literacy work with your students.
