Key college and career readiness skills include being able to take notes on texts and use those notes as a basis for comparing information and then writing and presenting about it. In this webinar, come and learn about The Change Agent as a source of texts and ready-to-use graphic organizers that will help students organize information and use it as the basis for their own piece of writing.
- ELA teachers of all levels
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
Graphic organizers help students sort information, but where can teachers find the texts that will be the basis for students getting to practice this skill? In this workshop, participants will learn how to access The Change Agent, which is a source of multilevel, student-written articles on topics that are relevant to adult learners. Because issues are organized into themes, teachers have a source of high-quality content, written at various levels but with some thematic unity. Thus, there are ample opportunities for students to read multiple sources, compare them, take notes about them, and then write and/or present about them. For this workshop, we will focus on the theme of immigrants and immigration, and we will explore graphic organizers that help students investigate various aspects of immigrants’ experience in the U.S. Graphic organizers are available in PDF format, as well as Google slides and Google docs, so that teachers can easily adapt them for classroom use. All materials are FREE to DESE-supported programs in Massachusetts.
Participants will receive 1.5 hours of PD credit upon completion of this webinar.
Please note: 1-2 days before the event, registrants will receive a separate email from Zoe Reinecke, zoe_reinecke@worlded.org, with instructions on how to access the Zoom session.
