Overview

How can Teaching Skills That Matter in Adult Education (TSTM) guide you in supporting your students’ digital literacy? As one of the resources recommended by ACLS, this webinar series will help you deepen your understanding of digital literacy and its role in our adult education classrooms. You will explore the TSTM tools and resources for digital literacy and develop, implement, and reflect on a lesson for your students.

The training, provided by the Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) project, trains teachers to integrate the skills that matter to adult students using approaches that work across critical topics. Massachusetts participated in the TSTM project in the 2020/2021 program year as well as the current year. As part of our state’s continued focus on TSTM and our work to sustain and scale our learning related to the TSTM project, participants in this training will have an opportunity to focus specifically on the topic area of digital literacy.

Description

This workshop, provided by the Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) project, will be facilitated by Kathy Harris, who serves as a Digital Literacy Subject Matter Expert for the TSTM project. Dr. Harris will provide a brief overview of the components of TSTM and then dig into the topic area of digital literacy more deeply. She will introduce lessons and resources from the TSTM toolkit and facilitate the exploration of those materials. You will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues and consider how to adapt the materials for use in your own classrooms.

The first 2-hour webinar will provide an overview of digital literacy within the TSTM framework. Then, you will apply what you learned and adapt a TSTM lesson to teach in your own context. You will reflect on the process of adapting and teaching the lesson in a follow-up, 2-hour webinar. Throughout the training series, you will engage in a private LINCS Community group where you can interact with the facilitator and other training participants for sharing and support, estimated at 1 hour.

This is one in a series of five Introduction to Digital Literacy online workshops on the standards and frameworks suggested by ACLS. We strongly encourage those who did not attend the Introduction to Digital Literacy: Where to Begin! webinar to review the recording prior to attending this workshop.
