Overview

Desmos is a free and versatile tool for in person and remote math teaching. Desmos classroom activities leverage the power of technology to provide conceptual learning experiences that can be customized to fit your students' needs. Desmos classroom activities are fun and engaging for students and can be used at all levels to teach many concepts. In addition, the tools and support for teachers are robust, allowing teachers to facilitate Desmos classroom activities without having to learn complicated new technical skills.

  • ABE and HSE teachers at all levels of math ability and comfort
Description

In this workshop, you will experience as a learner a Desmos classroom activity that explores connections between different ways of representing data (a topic relevant to math, science, and social studies). You will experience and learn about how to facilitate Desmos classroom activities using the teacher dashboard, and learn how to use Desmos with Google Classroom or on its own. 

IMPORTANT: You will need a laptop or tablet for this session. WiFi access will be provided.

    Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Find and facilitate Desmos classroom activities
  • Use the Desmos teacher dashboard
  • Explain the connections between several ways of representing data
