Navigating Pathways to Opportunity prepares advisors, coaches, and college and career navigators to provide the comprehensive support that their students need to successfully transition to career pathways, workforce training programs, and postsecondary education. In this self-paced course, you will learn strategies for identifying and engaging your students’ aspirations, addressing barriers, and building a comprehensive network of support to promote persistence.

In this self-paced course, you will identify the key components of college and career navigation and explore the skills, resources, and partnerships needed to be an effective navigator.
Through readings, videos, and facilitated online discussion forums, you will acquire the skills and resources needed to develop a Navigator Program Plan, which will include your plans for facilitated group activities, collaborating with instructors, and using data proactively in your advising work.
Course Format & Requirements: This course is self-paced with no synchronous meetings. The course runs for six weeks, with weekly assignments that must be completed by set deadlines. The assignments will require approximately 3 to 4 hours per week.
- Orientation: Online self-paced module in Canvas (4/7/25 to 4/14/25)
NOTE: You must complete the orientation module before you can begin Navigating Pathways Module 1.
- Module 1: Independent activities in Canvas (4/14/25 to 4/21/25)
- Module 2: Independent activities in Canvas (4/21/25 to 4/28/25)
- Module 3: Independent activities in Canvas (4/28/25 to 5/5/25)
- Module 4: Independent activities in Canvas (5/5/25 to 5/12/25)
- Module 5: Independent activities in Canvas (5/12/25 to 5/19/25)
To earn a certificate of completion, you must complete all of the assignments with a score of 80% or above. The course instructor will assess your work based on whether and to what extent you have completed the required assignments and postings.
