Bring AI to Your ESOL Classroom: Join the Pace AI Study!
Are you an ESOL instructor looking for a way to support personalized language learning? SABES is pleased to share the following opportunity from our partners at World Education and ACLS.
In collaboration with ACLS and DESE, World Education and the Pace AI team (funded by the Institute of Education Sciences) are recruiting ESOL programs to participate in a research study on AI in adult education.
Why Join the Pilot?
Participating programs get access to Pace AI—an AI-powered learning platform for adult learners—at no cost. Access includes free student and teacher licenses for the duration of the study, which includes:
- Flexible Curriculum: Use a ready-made ESOL curriculum or upload your own materials to generate personalized language exercises.
- Multilingual Scaffolding: Support for students in simple English and over 250 native languages.
- Customized Support: The Pace AI team provides teacher training and "just-in-time" technical help for you and your students.
Who Can Participate?
We are looking for ESOL classes for Spring 2026 (April–June). The study is open to Massachusetts ESOL classes at the intermediate to advanced level (NRS Levels 4–6). To participate, all students in a class must be 18+ with access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Study Commitment
The study is designed to be low-lift and high-impact.
- Teachers should plan to use Pace AI for a minimum of six weeks, with students actively completing assignments in Pace for about one hour per week (in class or as homework).
- Privacy: All data is anonymized and reviewed by JSI’s Internal Review Board (IRB).
