The Curriculum for Adults Learning Math (CALM) is based on the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE) for math. These standards and curriculum require you to teach conceptually. Since many of us were only taught procedurally, it can be challenging to figure out how to teach differently.
These sessions are a way for the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy C&I PD Center to support you as you begin to implement new ways of teaching math.
Registration is required to get a head count for each session. If you have any specific questions regarding CALM implementation, we encourage you to contact us when you register.
- Novice to experienced adult numeracy practitioners, including directors, who are implementing CALM or are interested in hearing how others are implementing it
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
At the CALM Support Sessions, the facilitators will share some of the latest materials supporting the curriculum which have been developed since the first round of CALM Orientations in Fiscal Year 2019. (Please note: only those who have attended a full CALM Orientation will have access to the complete curriculum.) Further sessions will be based on specific questions or concerns you have as you implement CALM. It will be helpful to know your specific concerns ahead of time so that the facilitators can come prepared to address those.
We facilitate discussions as you share new ideas and ask questions regarding CALM. Through sharing, you will have the opportunity to learn how others address similar concerns.
Please join us for mutual CALM learning and support this year!
Each of these sessions is a stand-alone, three-hour workshop. Attendance at all sessions is encouraged, but not required. For more information, please contact Sherry Soares (sherry_soares@terc.edu).
