This professional development activity/course is designed for:
During two 90 minute sessions hosted on Zoom, this workshop focuses on best practices in teaching beginners (simple learning routines, concrete content and context, scaffolding, formative assessment, and release of responsibility) and explores how we might bring those practices into the remote teaching context by using a variety of media and platforms (Zoom, What’s App, and the US Postal Service). The workshop will acknowledge the challenges remote-teaching presents to teachers of ESOL beginners, while also highlighting some of its unforeseen opportunities. This workshop suggests an open and curious “beginner's mindset” as we expand our teaching toolbox beyond the traditional classroom.
