Overview

If you have already completed Diagnostic Assessments of Reading with Dr. John Strucker, or completed STAR training, then participate in this session to learn how to diagnostically assess your readers, remotely.

This workshop will cover how to conduct a remote diagnostic reading interview, including the background questionnaire and assessments of Word Reading, Oral Vocabulary, and Oral Reading Fluency.

Description

Diagnostic reading assessment is essential to inform instruction and for appropriate class placement.

This workshop will cover how to conduct a remote diagnostic reading interview, including the background questionnaire and assessments of Word Reading, Oral Vocabulary, and Oral Reading Fluency. These remote assessment procedures and materials have been developed to match ABE learners’ varying amounts of technological access and familiarity -- from learners with only cell phones to those with tablets or laptops and access to high speed internet.

Please note: As this virtual session will be held in Zoom, participants will need to be familiar with the "share the document" feature of Zoom. Once you have registered and your completion of the prerequisite is verified, you will receive an email with instructions and materials prior to the virtual session.

    Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate which remote assessment strategy is appropriate for each learner
  • Conduct remote assessments by various modes including cell phone only, Zoom, or any other virtual platform
