During the September ACLS State as Partner meeting, we learned that more than 60% of all classes this fall are being offered through distance and hybrid education models.
To support this transition, we are excited to announce the Expanding Equitable Access through Distance and Hybrid Education series, newly updated to align with the ACLS’ revised August 2021 Massachusetts Policies for Effective Adult Education.
This series is intended to help your program team, step-by-step, to implement new distance and hybrid classes or continue building your existing program. We will emphasize the many benefits of providing these options to current and potential students, such as helping to meet enrollment targets by expanding access to your program for previously underserved audiences. To maximize the benefits of this PD, you are encouraged (but not required) to participate in program teams.

This professional development activity/course is designed for:
Drawing on the nationally recognized IDEAL Distance and Blended Learning Handbook, as well as research and examples from effective program practices, we address topics fundamental to high quality implementation with strands that are customized for directors, instructors, and staff involved in recruitment, screening, and orientation.
We encourage you to take advantage of all three components of this series and are pleased to offer focused, flexible options for participation:
Online Modules: You will register via this calendar posting for the prerequisite Introduction module that serves as the foundation for all staff. When you complete the Introduction, you will automatically be able to access and may take one or more of the role-specific elective modules in any sequence, which have been customized for directors (on administrative issues), teachers (on instructional issues), and those involved with recruitment, screening, and orientation.
- Expanding Equitable Access: An Introduction (Prerequisite for other modules, 2 hours: Open 11/1/21 – 11/16/21)
- Expanding Equitable Access: For Directors (4 hours: Open 11/1/21 – 1/3/22)
- Expanding Equitable Access: For Teachers (4 hours: Open 11/1/21 – 1/3/22)
- Expanding Equitable Access: Recruitment, Screening, and Orientation (4 hours: Open 11/1/21 – 1/3/22)
Community of Practice (CoP): Monthly one-hour meetings, organized according to topic, role, and experience, provide you the opportunity to network and brainstorm with other program colleagues. See the attachment for dates and times.
Customized Program-based Coaching: Customized program-based coaching builds on the knowledge you acquire by completing the online course and participating in the CoPs. It is intended to support your program team in implementing these concepts. Due to the nature of this option, coaching is limited to eight programs.
