This webinar gives a brief overview of the recently released Good to Know ESOL and ABE Assessment Guides and provides strategies on how these guides can be used by ABE and ESOL teachers to better prepare students for NRS pre- and post-testing. A major focus will be on the practical application of these guides in both virtual and in-person instructional contexts.

This 60-minute online workshop is structured on the new resource from ACLS and UMass Center for Educational Assessment CEA): The Good to Know ESOL and ABE Assessment Guides. This workshop is for teachers, directors, NRS test administrators, and assessment coordinators who want ideas and support for helping students prepare for any of the NRS assessments used in Massachusetts for pre- and post-testing purposes. Participants will look at the GTK assessment guides as an instructional resource to:
- Provide students with basic information (e.g., what, why, when) on the particular NRS test they take for pre- and post-testing
- Make the NRS testing process transparent for students
- Situate the testing in a comfortable context for students
- Support implementation of the Assessment Standards in the MA Professional Standards
- Navigate the main components of the Good to Know Assessment Guides
- Identify key practical uses of the Good to Know Assessment Guides for your class
- Incorporate scaffolding strategies to support implementation of the Good to Know Assessment Guides for low ESOL levels
- Identify how the Good to Know Assessment Guides connect to and support implementation of MA adult education professional standards
