Overview

This facilitated sharing and learning group is designed to support new and experienced volunteer coordinators and others in adult education programs who work with volunteers. In this session, we will focus on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will specifically look at implicit bias along with strategies for recruiting a diverse team of volunteers.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Volunteer coordinators, both experienced and new to this work
  • Adult education program staff interested in incorporating volunteers into their work
Description

Join us to learn about how implicit bias affects all of us and explore the tools we can use to mitigate it. In this interactive sharing group, you will learn about resources and approaches that support volunteers to both raise awareness about bias and put up guardrails against it. We will also look at how you can recruit and support a more diverse team of volunteers.

During the first interactive portion of this sharing group meeting, you will hear from Change Agent Editor Cynthia Peters from World Education’s New England Literacy Resource Center. There will be time at the end to share your own program strategies for recruiting and supporting a diverse team of volunteers and to reflect on the day’s topic.

Note: Once you register, you will receive the link to join the Zoom meeting about a week prior to the session. If you have any questions, please contact Ruzica_banovic@worlded.org
