The Curriculum for Adults Learning Math (CALM) was designed to give adult students a strong conceptual foundation in mathematics. Teachers who have worked with CALM know that it relies heavily on visuals, tactile manipulatives, and student collaboration and may feel very different (to both students and teachers) from the way they learned in school when they were younger. This online workshop series is intended to help teachers deepen their understanding of the content, teaching strategies, and overall organization of the CALM curriculum. Each support session will focus on a specific content topic. Participants will have the chance to experience CALM activities on that topic, reflect on CALM’s approach to teaching that topic, and share ideas and questions with other teachers.
While registrants are not required to attend a CALM Orientation and/or participate in the asynchronous CALM Introduction to participate in the CALM Support Series, we strongly encourage them to do so. The Support Series builds from the prior knowledge gained in the other CALM offerings. Participants will also have the opportunity to schedule one-on-one follow-up coaching sessions with the facilitator, if desired.

This professional development activity/course is designed for:
This 90-minute virtual workshop will introduce the four stages of the statistical cycle and take you through a CALM activity for collecting data to answer a statistical question. You will also look at the progression of how data topics are addressed in CALM. In addition, CALM support workshops are a time to meet and share ideas with other teachers.
