In this interactive workshop on Zoom, you will explore how to apply the principles of backward design to the virtual ESOL learning environment. With your colleagues, you will work on aligning learning objectives, assessments, and virtual learning tasks that integrate language development strategies, problem solving, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills, and digital literacy.
Using a “choice board” approach, you will have the option to work independently or with level-alike colleagues to develop a virtual ESOL lesson that prompts learners to:
- Engage with, explore, and practice the lesson content
- Demonstrate their learning
- Reflect on and assess their progress

Use backward design principles for remote lesson planning
- Select Zoom tools that support instruction and align to your ESOL lesson objective and assessments

Use breakout rooms and screen-share tools to increase learner engagement and provide [JY: Capitalize first word] intentional instruction in language and digital skills development, as well as interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and other critical thinking skills
