This offering is a facilitated regional sharing and learning group for new and experienced advisors. Agenda topics are selected based on the interests and needs of attendees and emerging issues in the field, and they are posted two weeks before the meeting.
While this sharing group has been primarily for those in a specific region, now that all meetings are online, some meetings (like this one) are open to all. Please plan to join four meetings a year, regardless of which region you join, in order to make room for all.
- Both new and experienced advisors. Instructors who play a role in education and career planning are also welcome to attend to share and learn about best practices and resources
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month in Massachusetts and across the country. Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects each segment of our society regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, social class or immigration status. Many ABE programs have adult learners attending their classes that have been impacted by domestic violence. ABE advisors play a pivotal role in supporting adult learners to persist in their studies and connecting them to community resources, therefore it is imperative that they enhance their knowledge of this issue.
Our first Northeast Advisors Sharing group meeting will feature a guest speaker with expertise in this matter who will conduct a Domestic Violence 101 presentation. The workshop will cover the following topics: a) dynamics and complexity of relationship violence, b) warning signs of an unhealthy relationship, c) power and control, d) safety planning, e) how to support individuals in abusive relationships and f) resources for victims of domestic violence and their families.
Note: Ruzica Banovic (ruzica_banovic@worlded.org) will confirm your registration and send you the link to join the session several days prior to the event.
