Overview

Formative assessments are doubly important: they inform the instructor and the learner of the learner's understanding of what is being taught. This two-part webinar series explores practical and powerful formative assessments tailored specifically for the ELA classroom. Experience, implement, and evaluate formative assessment practices—appropriate for both in-person and remote settings—that you might use to guide teaching and learning in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • ABE and ASE ELA teachers and tutors of all levels and experience
Description

Whether they are formal or informal, formative assessments can—and should—be intentionally planned into lessons that target reading, writing, speaking, listening, and/or language skills. But how might formative assessments be efficiently incorporated into ELA lessons, in ways that give learners more control over their own learning and help you as the instructor know where to head next?

In the first of two Zoom sessions (January 19, 1–3 p.m.), expand your repertoire of practical and powerful formative assessments and learn how to match them with your ELA learning objectives. Return to your classroom to implement one or two approaches, and then in the second session (February 16, 1–2:30 p.m.), share the outcomes, your thoughts, and your questions  and extend your learning even further.

Please note: Several days before the event you will receive an email from Zoe Reinecke, (zoe_reinecke@worlded.org), of the SABES ELA PD Center at World Education with directions for accessing the Zoom sessions.
