    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • New and experienced ELA, Math, and ESOL adult education teachers interested in learning how to use the CCRSAE, the MA ELPS, the MA Professional Standards for Adult Education, and the ESOL Professional Standards to enhance their teaching practice
Description

This course guides you in connecting the Massachusetts standards for adult education and your teaching practice. You will begin to develop and strengthen your understanding of the College and Career Readiness Standards, the MA English Language Proficiency Standards, and the MA Professional Standards for Adult Education and ESOL. You will also learn to apply these standards to your instructional planning and teaching approaches. Through a combination of self-paced and facilitated virtual sessions, you will engage in reflective exercises, explore instructional strategies, and write a standards-aligned lesson plan.

Before you attend the first webinar, you will be asked to choose a content area (ELA, ESOL, or Math) to focus on for the duration of the course. Content coaches will work with you and your colleagues to apply the standards to your particular teaching contexts.

The course components include:

  • Two 1.5-hour facilitated webinars
  • Two self-paced modules
  • Time to work on a lesson plan throughout the course plus an additional 1 hour to complete it

Total PD hours: 7

To receive credit or PDPs you must participate in all four components and complete the final lesson plan satisfactorily.
