Join this session to learn how to effectively integrate ELA standards into career awareness and career exploration lessons. The facilitators will share approaches to developing contextualized ELA instruction that builds career content knowledge alongside foundational ELA skills. Instructors will be introduced to career awareness and career exploration tools to aid students in successfully navigating current and future job markets.

Description

In this 90-minute webinar, instructors will learn how to build students’ career awareness while developing their speaking, reading, and writing skills. Due to the limited time instructors have with their students, it’s essential that they know how to contextualize instruction so that students learn foundational ELA skills while planning for their future careers. During this session, instructors will practice aligning career awareness and career exploration content to ELA standards, writing clear lesson objectives, and choosing appropriate career awareness texts that maximize student learning.  

Upon completing this session, participants will receive 1.5 PD hours in LACES. Additionally, participants will have the option to submit a career pathways lesson plan that includes ELA CCR standards, clear objectives, activities, and assessments. An additional 2 hours of PD hours will be given upon completion of the optional lesson-planning practicum activity. Participants can be paired with a SABES ELA coach for support with completing the assignment.
