Did you know that Newsela has worked with ACLS to create a customized collection of lessons and resources for Massachusetts? Please join this session to explore the Newsela resources in this custom Massachusetts Adult Basic Education (ABE) Collection, during which you will learn to leverage Newsela content, tools, and teaching resources.

During this workshop, you will gain an understanding of the seven modules of the Newsela Massachusetts Adult Basic Education (ABE) Collection: 

  1. Literacy Skills Development
  2. High School Equivalency Exam Preparation
  3. Career Pathways
  4. Workforce Preparation
  5. Digital Literacy
  6. Civics Education
  7. Problem-Based and Project-Based Learning

Teachers will learn strategies and tools for using Newsela differentiated text levels, annotations, and lesson sparks. This session will include facilitator modeling and guidance, time to work and plan within your Newsela account, and opportunities to share experiences, ask questions, and seek platform and implementation support.

    Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of the structure and essential components of the Newsela Massachusetts ABE Collection

  • Plan lessons by leveraging Newsela resources
