Overview

During this Lunch and Learn session, the presenter will discuss the importance of readability with respect to digital texts. You will learn about Adobe Liquid Mode, a free readability technology tool, that improves access to digital texts and can be used to support the reading skills of adult learners.

    This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Adult education teachers of all levels who are interested in integrating a freely available digital tool to support access to digital texts on mobile devices and enhance language and literacy learning
Description

This presentation introduces the concept of readability and its importance when relying on digital texts in teaching and learning. The presenter will describe research and findings and provide in-depth descriptions of teachers’ and students’ direct experience using one readability technology, Adobe Liquid Mode.

You will have an opportunity to experiment reading digital text using Adobe Liquid Mode. You will leave the session with knowledge of the importance of readability and strategies and of a tool you can use in your programs. You will learn how to support and onboard students to this technology.

You will receive 1 PD hour in LACES upon completion of this session.

  • Use knowledge about the impact of readability on literacy and language learning to inform instructional decisions
  • Use Adobe Acrobat Reader and Liquid Mode to support offline, mobile access of PDFs
  • Support your students in making use of Liquid Mode and other freely available readability technologies to support their engagement with digital texts/resources
