    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Instructors and other program staff who use online tools for teaching
  • Instructors who would like to make use of a wide array of digital assessment tools to guide instruction at the individual, group, and whole class level
Description

This offering is part of our EdTech Sandbox series. Each EdTech Sandbox session is an opportunity to get to know and play with digital tools and resources that support your work and your students’ learning.

The theme of this EdTech Sandbox session is assessing the best digital tools to use for authentic evaluation of student learning. Authentic assessment is an evaluation method that focuses on real-world application of knowledge. Instructors are often encouraged to utilize technology-rich assessment tools, but many tools provide assessments that are not applicable outside the classroom and do not always provide opportunities for detailed, thoughtful feedback.

In this final session, we will discuss a number of digital tools that allow instructors to provide more authentic knowledge checks at the individual, group, and whole class levels. You will learn how to use the results of these assessments to adjust instruction accordingly. We will showcase multiple, outside-the-box ways of providing feedback on assessment activities and contrast different tools based on instructional needs.

To support effective implementation of digital authentic assessment in your classroom, we will construct our own authentic assessments during the session to practice using the tools we reviewed.

It is recommended that participants have a Google account as certain assessment tools utilized in this session will require this. Specific digital skills that participants will use during this course include:

  • Using Zoom engagement and presentation features, including chat and screen share
  • Creating an account with a new tool
  • Commenting on and adding to a collaborative Padlet

Course Format: The course is online facilitated over Zoom and is designed to be hands-on.

Course Requirements: To complete the course, you must attend the 1.5-hour session.
