Directors must balance complex staff and student needs, local policies and protocols, and state guidance as they design, lead, and adapt program design, instructional practices, and program culture. The Directors Sharing Group is a peer-facilitated opportunity for directors to network, share resources and strategies, ask questions, and learn from and with one another. In this meeting, we will focus on strategies for cultivating student leadership.
- Directors and program leaders with any level of experience in their role
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
Directors Sharing Group meetings are held quarterly and are open to anyone who works as a director or program leader, regardless of title or role. In each meeting, we address a different topic that is relevant to your work at the moment and what’s happening in your program. Please bring your burning questions, your hot topics, and your shining successes to share with the group!
The topic of this meeting is Cultivating Student Leadership.
What is student leadership and what does it look like? Adult education has a unique opportunity to draw on the capacity of its students to enhance programming, inspire creativity, and foster student and staff growth. There are so many ways to amplify students’ voices and draw on their skills and expertise, from engaging student assistance in the classroom to student leadership councils. In this session, we will demystify student leadership, share experiences, and gain ideas for fostering student engagement, voice, and action. Please come prepared to collaborate, ask questions, and share ideas and resources.
Group Format: Sharing Group meetings are online facilitated: meetings are held live over Zoom. You will also be enrolled in a companion course in Canvas, where you will have access to resources and notes from each meeting and discussion boards to continue the conversation.
