The EdTech in Action PD series provides a chance for you to explore and engage with technology while learning how to support your students. Each session introduces a new edtech tool and presents two replicable edtech routines that you can adapt for your classroom or for administrative use to build students' digital skills. In this second session, we will learn about using Google Translate as an instructional tool—not just for the classroom, but for advising meetings and program intake as well.

Are you looking for a way to foster learner agency by leveraging translation tools in the classroom, rather than banning them? Are you looking for ways to support learner comfort and relationship building during your program’s intake process and advising meetings? Are you looking to do all this and more in ways that build students’ confidence using translation tools that will frequently appear in their lives outside of your program? Join this EdTech in Action workshop on instruction with Google Translate, which will equip you with the skills and knowledge to leverage Google Translate (or other similar translation applications) in unique, convenient, routine-based ways to support clear instruction for your adult learners. You will also have the opportunity to test out one of the Google Translate routines during the session to model this practice and prepare to implement it. What you learn in this session will apply to several translation tools, so don’t hesitate to sign up if you are not a Google user!
Using World Education’s EdTech Integration Strategy Toolkit as a guide, the four-part EdTech in Action learning series explores practical edtech routines for adult educators and program administrators. Each session focuses on a specific edtech tool, demonstrating two key routines—one instructional and one programmatic—for its effective use. Participants will learn to identify the tool's potential, apply foundational skills to implement demonstrated routines, and adapt strategies to meet their program's unique needs.
Format & Requirements: This course consists of one synchronous, online session of 1.5 hours, with additional asynchronous work totaling around one hour. The estimated time to complete the entire course is 2.5 hours.
