Once people understand the impact that trauma has on students and staff in adult education programs, the next question is often: How can we change our practices to be trauma-informed? In this session, we focus on the application of healing-centered strategies and practices that help you become more trauma-informed in your classroom and program. Walk away from this session with strategies, and a larger sense of how to integrate healing into your everyday educational routines and student and staff interactions.
This session will provide an opportunity to deepen your skills, and will complement the material presented in the November 17th 2022 session on Trauma Informed Instruction. However, registration for these two events is separate, and attendance at both is not required.

Adult education directors, advisors, teachers, and all staff who want to make their programs and classrooms trauma-informed through the use of healing-centered strategies
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
Session 1: December 14th, 10–11:30 a.m.
This participatory session uses modeling, scenarios, and small group discussions to build skills in using healing-centered strategies in your programs and classrooms. We will start with a brief reminder of the impact of personal and community trauma on adult learners’ ability to engage and persist, before moving into strategies and scenarios. We will use adult education scenarios as a place to build your skills using healing-centered practices. In addition, the presenters will model healing-centered strategies as we move through the session, giving you a taste of what it is like to be in a healing-centered space.
Session 2: January 17th, 10–11:30 a.m.
One month later, we will come back together to discuss the application of some of these strategies in your program and classroom setting. What worked? What challenges arose? What challenges continue to emerge? Come to share your experience and receive support from your peers and our expert facilitators.
All are welcome to come with their full humanity, their willingness to learn, and their desire to question and deepen their trauma-informed work.
