This professional development activity/course is designed for:
In this highly interactive workshop on Zoom, you will explore several effective instructional routines that readily transfer from the in-person to the virtual classroom and back again. During the session, you will identify how instructional routines support your ESOL learners’ language development and how the remote environment can transform those routines into opportunities for even greater skill development including digital literacy. The routine use of evidence-based activities and tasks ensures that learners develop language strategies and critical thinking, collaboration, and other essential skills. You and your colleagues will explore these routines and Zoom tools:
- Gathering and reporting data (using breakout room interviews and Google Sheets)
- Brainstorming, categorizing, and ranking information (using Zoom tools and Padlet)
- Small group discussions (using breakout rooms and discussion templates)
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues teaching the same ESOL level to adapt one of the routines for your learners.
Follow-up coaching is available through the SABES ESOL PD Center to support you in integrating new tools and strategies into your teaching practice. To arrange a coach, please contact the PD Center Director, Dori McCormack at dmccormack@edc.org
