Sylvia Lotspeich Greene has taught reading to adult learners at the Community Learning Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the past 40 years. She has a Masters in Psychology of Reading, Wilson Level 1 Certification, and has attended many Orton-Gillingham workshops. She has learned the most about effective teaching, however, from her courageous students.
Sylvia is the author of Basic Literacy Kits 1 and II; the accompanying basal readers Sam and Val, Main Street, Next Stop Love, and Just in Time; and A Phonological Awareness Curriculum for Adults. She also developed the Sylvia Greene Word Analysis Inventory, a well respected and widely used assessment of basic phonics skills. She co-authored and co-taught a Foundations of Reading and Writing Curriculum, an ABE pilot course in Intermediate Reading, and an ABE certification course, Beginning Reading and Writing (0-3rd-grade equivalent). She has given workshops on teaching reading to learning-disabled adults, in Massachusetts and elsewhere.
