An Earth Day pin from the archives at the National Museum of American History, https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/object/nmah_1285255

First established in 1970, Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22nd. In honor of this holiday, below are some resources to help you incorporate climate awareness and environmental studies into your ELA classes this month and year-round.

ELA Curricula for Adult Learners (SABES):
The SABES English Language Arts PD team has sample curricula created in partnership with Massachusetts ABE practitioners. Below are two unit plans related to the climate/environment.

PBS Learning Media
This digital learning resource has thousands of free, standards-aligned videos, interactive modules, and lesson plans spanning all subjects. Although organized by K-12 levels, all materials have a tab labeled “Standards” where you can find a list of the CCRSAE standards the resource addresses. Below are some example lesson plans. The Learning Network from the New York Times:
The Learning Network publishes hundreds of teaching resources every school year that use content from The New York Times (articles, images, videos, etc.). Here are some lesson plans from the Learning Network that are relevant for Earth Month.
