Heidi Schuler has worked in adult education since 2006, spending much of that time expanding her understanding of tools and instructional strategies that make math meaningful, accessible, and fun for adult learners. Her participation in numerous professional development offerings and pilot studies and her active involvement on the Board of Directors of the Adult Numeracy Network (ANN) allowed her to learn from some of the best and brightest minds in adult ed math and numeracy. Through those experiences, she became a LINCS national trainer for math and numeracy and joined the SABES numeracy team as a curriculum developer and facilitator. At SABES, she was the lead developer of the Curriculum for Adults Learning Math (CALM).
In 2021, Heidi succeeded her mentor Donna Curry as the Director of the Adult Numeracy Center at TERC, where she leads the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy Curriculum & Instruction PD Center, oversees updates, research, and teacher support for the EMPower math series, and continues to facilitate professional development such as the Adults Reaching Algebra Readiness (AR)^2 institutes.
