"What Is Evidence-Based Reading Instruction and How Do You Know It When You See It?"
This 13-page brief, produced under a contract with OCTAE, reflects the experience of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Division of Adult and Career Education as it worked to bring about fundamental changes the district had identified as necessary to implement evidence-based reading instruction (EBRI):
- Changing perceptions of what constitutes adult reading instruction
- Changing how adult education programs deliver that instruction
The brief is organized in four parts:
- A definition and description of EBRI
- Examples of instructional scenarios that demonstrate what EBRI looks like in the classroom
- A case study of how EBRI has been implemented within the Los Angeles Unified School District
- Recommendations for agencies that are considering implementing EBRI
