This session is the first tier of a one-day, three-tiered professional development opportunity designed to support teachers whose ESOL students are coming to a virtual class on their smartphones.
Tier 1 is designed for instructors who have little to no experience using Zoom on smartphones and want to develop firsthand knowledge of learners’ mobile learning experiences as well as ways to make that experience more centered on the learner.

ESOL instructors teaching at any level. Participants will need both a smartphone and a laptop/desktop computer to participate in this session. All participants should be at least somewhat confident accessing the following Zoom tools on their computers:
• chat
• participant non-verbal responses
• share screen (including white boards)
• annotation
• breakout rooms
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
In this hour-long, hands-on session, teachers will familiarize themselves with the Zoom tools that support ESOL instruction and are identical on all devices and similar on different devices.
Participants will learnways to work around tools that are not available to the mobile user and adapt lesson materials for mobile viewing. In order to apply the session content, participants will use Zoom mobile tools to mirror effective face-to-face practices such as pair practice, group work, and formative assessment.
