- ESOL teachers of adult learners at all levels of English language proficiency
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
This PD opportunity is designed for ESOL teachers to address questions and/or challenges that arise when using Zoom tools. It addresses the five key areas of instruction (engagement, presentation, formative assessment, practice, and application) in order to improve learners’ experience during remote classes.
The 2-hour session is divided into four, 30-minute, segments, each focused on a particular element of the Zoom platform and its relationship to ESOL instruction:
- Section 1 (2:00-2:30 p.m.) focuses on basic Zoom tools for engagement and formative assessment (chat, reactions, views, and polls).
- Section 2 (2:30-3:00 p.m.) focuses on interactive presentation of content in Zoom (screen sharing and annotation).
- Section 3 (3:00-3:30 p.m.) focuses on guided and communicative practice tasks using breakout rooms and ed tech tools.
- Section 4 (3:30-4:00 p.m.) is an open Q&A session based on questions submitted via a Google doc prior to the session.
In this somewhat unconventional session participants are invited to drop in only for the segments that meet their needs, or they may choose to attend for the full 2 hours.
To ensure that we are able to meet the needs of all attending, please take a moment to complete this Google Form: The Good Struggle
In each segment, participants will briefly review and practice across devices (i.e. computers and smartphones) the tools associated with that segment and have opportunities to ask related questions as they arise.
Please sign into the session on the device you use to host your classes as well as on a smartphone or Chromebook.
Follow-up coaching is available through the SABES ESOL PD Center to support you in integrating new tools and strategies into your teaching practice. To arrange a coach, please contact the PD Center Director, Dori McCormack, at dmccormack@edc.org
