Overview

ESOL instructors support their multilingual learners’ writing skill development across a wide range of scenarios as they write independently and collaboratively, both in person and online. This workshop introduces edtech routines that you will try out and then adapt to your learners’ career, academic, and personal goals.

Please note: This course will take place in Blackboard where you will find all virtual session information, course materials, and additional resources. You cannot access the online course from the SABES website. Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • ESOL instructors at all levels of language proficiency
Description

In today’s world, adults need writing strategies that enable them to write independently and collaboratively in diverse settings, both in person and online. These can include messaging (personal), emailing (work), and posting to LMS discussion boards (academic). This workshop introduces edtech routines that you can adapt to your learners’ goals (e.g., writing in health-care settings, writing for business correspondence, writing for training and higher education tasks). The routines integrate writing strategies such as organizing ideas, planning, drafting, collaborating, and revising. You will also explore ways that digital feedback supports learners’ writing skill development without placing an undue burden on the instructor. By integrating digital skills and digital literacy within the writing process, learners can access tools that allow them to express themselves more clearly and more quickly, motivating them to write even more.

This session is the fourth and final session in the Fusing Literacy series. Please visit the SABES Calendar (https://sabes.org/calendar) for more information and to register for these other sessions:
