Overview

During this 1.5-hour workshop, participants will learn Evidenced-Based Reading Instruction (EBRI) strategies to help teach students how to read more fluently. The session will be facilitated by two experienced Massachusetts Student Achievement in Reading (STAR) nationally certified trainers.

    This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • ELA teachers and tutors of readers at grade level equivalent 0-8.9
Description

During this session, you will learn why it is important for your students to read fluently. We will explain the three components of reading fluency (accuracy, rate, and prosody), and the impact these have on reading. We will introduce EBRI strategies for teaching fluency, and we will cover the importance of teaching reading using explicit instruction. These strategies can be adapted for the different reading levels of your students and are appropriate for in-person and remote instruction.

Please note: Several days before the event you will receive an email from from the SABES ELA PD team at World Education with directions for accessing the Zoom session.

MA participants who complete this PD event will receive 1.5 hours of PD credit in LACES. In addition, this event is part of an EBRI series. If you complete the EBRI series for the level that you teach, you will receive a SABES EBRI Certificate of Completion.

  • Identify and utilize evidenced-based reading strategies for teaching fluency reading
  • Explain the terms accuracy, rate, and prosody, and how they impact fluent reading
