Overview

Join us for a special Advisor Sharing Group meeting, where we will respond to the current climate, focusing on what it looks like to care for your students, your colleagues, and yourselves during this time of uncertainty. You will learn about trauma-informed and healing-centered strategies and practices before connecting with each other through facilitated discussion.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Advisors or anyone whose role includes supporting students’ career and education planning
Description

Advisor Sharing Groups (ASG) are peer-facilitated, statewide meetings where advisors provide program updates, discuss and troubleshoot challenges, and share resources, promising practices, and more. This group is open to anyone who works in an advising role, regardless of your title.

This special ASG meeting will provide a space to process how changes in the national rhetoric, immigration policy, and in social and educational services, are impacting the day-to-day realities of you and your students.

You will first hear from an expert on trauma-informed and healing-centered practices, who will guide you through an exploration of strategies for managing fear and uncertainty in the classroom and advising settings. You will then have a chance to engage with your peers about the emotional dysregulation that often accompanies persistent “othering” and discuss trauma-informed and healing-centered coping techniques that can support your work with staff and students.

Course Format & Requirements: This sharing group meeting is online facilitated and held live on Zoom. You will also be enrolled in a companion course in Canvas, where you will have access to resources and notes from the meeting and a discussion board to continue the conversation.

Course Access & Support: Before the meeting, registrants will receive an email with a Zoom link for the synchronous meeting and instructions on how to access announcements, resources, and discussion boards in Canvas. If you do not receive this information, please first check your Spam folder, then email Jane Brandt at jane_brandt@worlded.org
