Math Foundations Academy (Blended, Waltham)
The Math Foundations Academy is designed to engage instructors in inquiry and reflective learning to expand the effective math and numeracy instructional approaches they currently use or are interested in adding to their teaching toolbox. The Math Academy will include two institutes, each composed of an in-person session, synchronous and asynchronous events, coaching, and a community of practice (CoP). The complete Math Academy includes both institutes:
Institute 1 (September–October)
Arrays to Area Models to Algebra Tiles. Math content includes number and operation sense, multiplication concepts, writing algebraic expressions, and solving quadratic equations.
Institute 2 (November–December)
Number Lines to the Coordinate Plane. Math content includes number and operation sense, measurement, and linear equations.

Ideas for Teaching Classes with Unpredictable Attendance
Classes with unpredictable attendance are the norm in adult education, and some settings are more challenging for teachers than others. Many classes have open enrollment, and most students are not required to attend class. Students with a wide variety of experience—testing at different levels—are often in one class. Some classes, such as those in correctional settings, regularly have students for only a short duration because of their unique circumstances. If you are looking for ideas to teach a class with unpredictable attendance, this is the session for you! We’ll share ideas and experiences and invite you to share your ideas to support teachers in giving students a positive educational experience.

Introduction to BeCALM (Self-Paced)
This course is designed for teachers who are using or want to use the Beginning Curriculum for Adults Learning Math (BeCALM). BeCALM was created to give teachers a full, rich, conceptually based curriculum for adults who need instruction at CCRSAE level B/C (GLE 2–4). This course will help teachers become familiar with the math content at a beginning level and how this material is approached in the BeCALM curriculum.

Teaching Adult Learners with Language-Based Learning Disabilities: An Overview
In this session, learn about common language-based learning disabilities (LBLD)—difficulties related to the understanding and use of spoken and written language, such as dyslexia—and specific strategies to support adult learners with LBLD. This session is the first in a series offered by the SABES ELA, ESOL, and Math Curriculum and Instruction teams on teaching adult learners with learning disabilities.

This session maps digital skills and tools to instructional routines through the lens of content, process, and product, helping ELA, ESOL, and Math instructors expand their learners’ aural and oral communication skills while building digital and AI literacy. Participants consider how focused listening, data gathering surveys, and team tasks can deepen content knowledge, strengthen communication skills, and support digital literacy development across all three instructional contexts.

Beyond the Checklist: Elevating Your Classroom Observation Experience (Online Blended)
As an adult education leader, you are responsible for creating the conditions in which teachers can thrive and students can succeed. Classroom observations can provide that window. When designed as a collaborative and growth-focused process, observations become more than a compliance requirement—they become a powerful leadership tool for identifying effective practices, supporting teachers, and strengthening instruction across your program. This professional learning series will help you build an observation process that turns classroom visits into meaningful opportunities for learning and improvement. You will learn how to gather evidence of teaching and learning, provide feedback that leads to growth, and use observation findings to focus coaching, professional development, and program improvement efforts.
