Overview

Directors must balance complex staff and student needs, local policies and protocols, and state guidance as they design, lead, and adapt program design, instructional practices, and program culture. The Directors Sharing Group is a peer-facilitated opportunity for directors to network, share resources and strategies, ask questions, and learn from and with one another.

Description

Directors Sharing Group meetings are held quarterly and are open to anyone who works as a director or program leader, regardless of title or role. In each meeting, we address a different topic that is relevant to your work at the moment and what’s happening in your program. Please bring your burning questions, your hot topics, and your shining successes to share with the group!

Beginning this year, all Directors Sharing Groups will be held statewide. Each meeting will include time for general discussion and updates, followed by breakout discussions organized by region or topic. 

The topic of this meeting is Fostering Student Retention and Persistence: Strategies, Policies and Best Practices. Student Retention and Persistence are the backbone of program and student success. When we retain our students, there is less work to do in recruitment, onboarding, and assessment. When students persist, they are more likely to show learning gains and make greater strides toward their goals. Join us in this session to share your challenges and your successes with retention and persistence. Our goal is for you to leave the session feeling supported, with many ideas for working for positive change in your programs. 

We will also save time to discuss the effects of the new federal administration on student retention, persistence, and safety in our programs.

Group Format: Sharing Group meetings are online facilitated: meetings are held live over Zoom. You will also be enrolled in a companion course in Canvas, where you will have access to resources and notes from each meeting and discussion boards to continue the conversation. 

Course Requirements: To complete this course, you must attend the 1.5-hour session.
